Bawumia benefited from 24-hour economy while studying in Canada - Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for condemning the 24-hour economy policy.

He disclosed that when the vice president was pursuing his PhD programme at the Simon Fraser University in Canada, he was able to work at night to earn an income, thanks to the 24-hour economy policy in place at that country.

The NDC communications officer rebuked Dr. Bawumia for criticizing the same policy that could enable the youth to gain employment and improve their lives, as he had benefited in the past.

Sammy Gyamfi pointed out that Dr. Bawumia is dismissing the 24-hour economy policy to score political points, which, in his opinion, does not bode well for the state.

“We are talking about a man who has been the biggest beneficiary of the 24-hour economy. I am talking about a man who said this is a bad idea because when he was schooling for his PhD at Simon Fraser University in Canada, he was schooling during the day and working in the night because there is a 24-hour economy in Vancouver, Canada today.

"Bawumia benefited from the 24-hour economy, yet he is telling young people who stand to benefit in Ghana that it is a bad idea,” he said, according to citinewsrrom.com.

The Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, has announced his intention to implement a 24-hour economy policy to expand the economic sector and provide more opportunities for citizens.

The idea has been strongly opposed by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who believe that it will not be impactful for the country, considering the available resources.
