Actress cum socialite Fella Makafui has disclosed how fake news and trolling on social media almost led her to commit suicide.

During an interview on Hitz FM on April 29, the mother of one disclosed that she was the victim of a false news story that had a severe emotional impact on her and almost drove her to suicide.

"In 2019, there was some false news that circulated. That was where I had it.

"I was having a meeting with my manager, and he just called me. He's like, 'Precious, I know you wouldn't do this, but this is what is going on. Could you tell me if it's true?' I said, 'Richie, there's no way I'll ever do something like that,"

"It broke me. I almost took my life," she said.

Makafui explained that the ordeal led her to abstain from publicly addressing or defending herself against those rumours.

She mentioned that she would rather not pay attention to the negative commentary and focus on her real-life interactions.

"I don't come publicly to explain myself, defend myself or clear the air about certain news again. It's because, at a point in my life, I just had it due to the trolling and all of that.

"Right now, you can say what you want about me. It's okay. You don't know me. It's just social media. This is real life.

"The few good people around me know who I am. So I don't think I have to say so much or do so much to prove a point because I almost took my life," she said.

Fella Makafui's words coincide with the increasing focus on the mental wellness of creatives.

Personalities, including Kuami Eugene, Wendy Shay, Kidi, and Mzvee, among others, have spoken up about stardom, social media and the effects on their mental health.

Recently, comedian Funny Face was involved in an accident at Kasoa in the Central Region.

While no death was recorded, Funny Face was remanded for two weeks and later released on GH¢120,000 bail by a Kasoa Circuit Court.

The accident was the latest in a series of mishaps surrounding the mental health of the comedian.
