Sixteen people have since been arrested following the lynching of a young military commander Capt. Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denyira-Obuasi in the Upper West Denkyira district of the Central region.

Seven out of the 16 are on remand including William Baah, the assemblyman who allegedly mobilised the youth to attack the soldier attached to the 5th Infantry Battalion in Burma Camp, but was on detachment in Upper Denkyira. The seven have been charged with murder.

Briefing the media in Accra Friday, the Director General of the CID, DCOP Bright Oduro said the remaining nine are assisting with investigations and will be processed for court next week.

Speaking at the same press briefing, the Inspector General of Police David Asante-Apeatu assured the police are on top of the issue and will round up all suspects behind the heinous crime.

Diaso, where the dastardly act took place, has been deserted by the town folks as the security agencies scour for suspects. Schools and health centres remain shut down with only a few of the elderly left in the ghost town.

President Akufo-Addo and other personalities including former presidents John Mahama and JJ Rawlings have condemned the act.
