#BawumiaMustFocus: Vice President mocked after latest attack on John Mahama

A campaign to have Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ‘focus on pertinent, relevant and important issues’ relative to his mandate is currently waging on social media after he launched yet another attack on former President John Mahama.

Dr Bawumia, in a response to a claim by John Mahama about the state of the economy, intimated that President Akufo-Addo has demonstrated superior leadership in his management of the coronavirus pandemic than Mahama did during the ‘dumsor’ era.

The vice president urged the NDC flagbearer to examine the data between his era and the current administration before making public statements.

“We have been able to perform much better than the situation we inherited, in fact, the data is very clear so my advice to Mahama is to take a look at the data before you speak or you will end up embarrassing yourself. The data has been very clear Agriculture, Industry, Inflation, Interest rate, creation of jobs we have done better than his administration”.

The Vice President has come under intense criticism since making that statement with several NDC bigwigs descending on him for being ‘inhumane’.

A deputy finance minister under the Mahama administration, Cassiel Ato Forson expressed anger and disappointment at the Bawumia’s attempt to compare the electricity crisis to coronavirus.

“Comparing a pandemic to an energy situation that occurred because the NPP Government failed to invest in power generation over an 8year period only reflects the confusion that has characterized your recent pronouncements.

“In any case, it is inhumane to compare a pandemic killing human beings to an electricity generation problem that was resolved by the same government. It is time to caution Dr. Bawumia not to be proud of cosmetic macro-economic data that fails to translate into economic well-being. Today, Ghana’s public debt has increased from GHS 120.3 billion as at 31st December 2016 to GHS 235 Billion as of 31st March 2020”.

Former Deputy Communication Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has also described Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the “butt of jokes”.

On social media this morning, the hashtag #BawumiaMustFocus is among the trends as calls for the Bawumia to ‘focus’ heightens.
