Mabel Aku Baneseh, a journalist with Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), has warned the Nana Akufo-Addo administration to be extremely careful how it goes about the $14 billion dollar loans it intends to secure from China.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mabel recalled the difficulty the erstwhile John Evans Atta Mills administration faced when it tried to secure a $3 billion from China. The journalist said that money did not come on a silver platter.

Mabel, who is a staff writer with the Daily Graphic, cautioned the government to be mindful of the possibility of the Chinese making ridiculous demands of Ghana at the time the country desperately needs cash.

The award-winning journalist and writer urged the government to consider other sources of revenue, as well as focusing on blocking revenue leakages in the country.

Mabel's argument for blocking revenue leakages follows an IMANI think tank report that said Ghana loses $3 billion to corruption each year.

"Dear government, be very careful with the Chinese and their promises. Rather, find alternative means of sealing all revenue leakages etc etc. The money is here on our soil," she wrote.

Several social media users agreed with Mabel's call for the government to consider other sources of revenue, including a focus on raising money locally.
