Honour Mahama and stop sharing gory images and videos - family

The family of late Captain Maxwell Mahama has taken swipe at journalists giving what they described as the irresponsible reportage of the gruesome murder of their relative by residents of Denkyira-Boase in the Central Region

“We recognize the media have played a pivotal role. But that is not to say in doing so the media should be irresponsible. …what we are talking about is responsible journalism. We are not saying there should be censorship of the media”

“The media should be circumspect in whatever they put out. I believe some of the media men and women and other ordinary citizens that are sharing the images of our late brother are decent people”

“We cannot do without the media but they should be circumspect”, Mr. Douri Bennin Haji, spokesperson for the Jaana Yigantu Family in the Sisala East District appealed.

Appreciating the good work of some media houses and individuals for their sympathy towards their lynched relative, he indicated ” In Sissalas our tradition, we do not despise the dead like the way some media are doing”

“What we are asking for is some limitations so that people’s lives and sensibilities are not trembled upon” the spokesperson told Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong host of Asempa FM’s “Eko Sii Sen” afternoon political talk show program.

The late army officer was attacked and lynched on the May, 29, 2017 by the residents on line of an official duty in the community to give protection to people there.

Audio and video footages captured by the residents while being lynched have gone viral both in the traditional media and social media disheartening family members and loved ones.

“We continue to appeal to the media. We know the social media have become fluid and maybe sometimes difficult to control but we know that in some other jurisdictions the social media have been a bit controlled. We cannot stop it completely but let’s not make our platforms available for the sharing especially group platforms and all that please!”, he appealed to Whatsapp group administrators.
