Kofi Adjorlolo honored in Liberia

A celebrated award winning actor and former broadcaster was last Thursday honored in Liberia by the President of the Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf with the international Golden Image award.

The award seeks to recognize individuals and institutions for excellence and dedication in their various endeavors and creating an impact on communities and in the society as a whole.

Under the theme "Let's maintain the peace ", and commemorating 169/year of independence, the event, the 7th edition this year, took place in Monrovia at the Monrovia City Hall and was well attended by dignitaries from all over the world.

The Award has eight (8) categories. Education, Empowerment/ Development, Leadership, Democracy, Peace and Security, Health, Human Rights, and Creative Arts/Culture.

Kofi Adjorlolo who is well known for his accomplishments and versatility in the art of film making and acting was cited for excellence in the creative arts category with special mention for promoting peace and unity through film making thereby creating a positive impact on society.

Dignitaries at the event included the Vice President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, U.S Ambassador to Liberia, Christine Ann Elder, China Ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue, Farid Zarif Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nation among others.

Keynote address was delivered by Hon. Prince Adetokundo Kayode Former Minister for Culture and Tourism, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Deputy President of Abuja Chamber of commerce.

Other recipient of the Golden Award were Michelle Obama, wife of the former President of USA, Dr. Ayisha Fofana Ibrahim of Gender Research and Documentation Institute, Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone, Nii Okwe Kinka Dowoana VI OSU Mantse of Accra and President of Greater Accra House of Chiefs, Mayor Clara Doe Mvogo Mayor of city of Monrovia, Boimah Kamara Finance Minister of Liberia, Yuo Haodong charge d'affaire, China Embassy in Liberia, and Elias Shoniyin, Deputy Minister Foreign Affairs of Liberia.

The Cultural Ambassador of Liberia and visionary founder of the international Golden Awards Ambassador Queen Juli Endee, reiterated, the need for advocacy for social Justice and community engagement through communication for development, peace, and capacity building programs with emphasis on children affected by the prolong civil war in Liberia.

Kofi Adjorlolo in his acceptance speech after receiving the award made a call on all artiste both young and old especially in the West Africa region to work harder and enhance their roles and responsibilities in nation building, empowerment, and skill training programs to accelerate cultural development.

He also expressed gratitude to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the honour bestowed on him by the government and people of Liberia.
