Why so many ministers at the presidency and what exactly are their roles at the presidency? Is it a case of job for the boys? At a time when, the emoluments of the executive is at an all time high, such a huge number of ministers with no specific roles at the presidency, is not just counterproductive and economically and financially imprudent, but also, a clear case of duplication of efforts with no value for money, in such appointments. Such a huge number of desk pushers does not augur well for the efficient adminstration of government, in a time when, there are huge advances in information technology which could if well adopted, serve Ghana and our governance structures very well.
7. Hon. Alhassan Azong, Minister of State at the Presidency.
8. Hon Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, Minister of State at the Presidency.
9. Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, Minister of State at the Presidency.
10. Hon. Fifi Kwetey, Minister of State at the Presidency.
11. Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Minister of State at the Presidency.
12. Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah, as Minister of State at the Presidency.
Meanwhile the President has also appointed Mr. P.V. Obeng as a Senior Presidential Adviser at the Presidency.
This is stupidity to the highest order. A country like Ghana with 25 million people has 29 Ministries apart from the regional Ministers and we still have institutions not under any of these Ministries? We are going to have two deputy Ministers for each of these Ministries and we can't place these institutions under the Ministries?
These so called agencies are going to have five to eight member commissions who are going to draw salaries and we still need Ministers at the Presidency to manage these agencies?
Mahamar just want to create jobs for his Northern brothers.
Sections of the general public and governance experts have questioned the nominations of the six as Ministers of State at the Presidency demanding to know what their core duties will be.
However, speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, the Senior Policy Advisor at the Office of the President, Dr. Sulley Gariba explained that “in the Office of the President, there are nearly 51 institutions that are coordinated so apart from the Presidency providing leadership for the whole governance setup, there are 51 disparate institutions.”
He listed the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the National Identification Authority (NIA), the Population Council and the Ghana AIDS Commission as some of the institutions which require the President’s attention.
The 51 institutions he noted are among the most central institutions that orchestrate the governance of the country.
Dr. Gariba therefore pointed out that the high number of institutions under the Presidency “deserves adequate supervision.”
“There is an onerous responsibility to have effective oversight for these. They are not Ministries as such but they have substance in making impact on Ghanaian citizens,” he said.
