We are beginning to see some of the effects of climate change. The rise in the global temperature is going to lead to more and more dry conditions in the Sahelian belt. The drought is beginning to affect the nomadic lifestyle of the Fulani pastoralists. They have no choice but to start moving southwards seeking green pastures and water for their herds.

This is not a problem between Busangas and Fulanis, neither is it an issue involving only Burkinabe and Ghanaian authorities.

The problem spans two zones - the grassland ecological zone and the forest ecological zone.
The problem involves the greater part of the sub-region.

ECOWAS needs to step in to help put in place mitigative and adaptive measures to deal with some of these effects of climate change.
