Ghanaians must thank God for Akufo-Addo – Effah Darteh

Ghanaians must be thankful to God for blessing Ghana with a leader like Nana Akufo-Addo, a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Capt. Nkrabea Effah Darteh (retd.), has observed.

He said but for the peaceful nature of the 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP, Ghana would have been plunged into chaos after the December elections and the subsequent agitations that followed the outcome.

The NPP is challenging the results of the polls, which saw John Mahama declared by the Electoral Commission as winner. The NPP Presidential candidate, his running-mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and NPP Chairman Jake Obetsebi-lamptey have petitioned the Supreme Court asking the highest adjudicative body of the land, to nullify the declaration of Mr. Mahama as a properly elected president.

Speaking Tuesday night on Adom TV’s current affairs programme ”Pampaso”, on the matter, the former MP for Berekum constituency in the Bono Ahafo Region said, Nana Akufo-Addo could have taken any other action that may have led to violence, but he chose to contest the results at the Supreme Court in the interest of the nation and in accordance with due process of law.

He stressed Nana Akufo-Addo had the nation at heart and would not do anything that will destroy the peace and security being enjoyed by the citizenry.

He was confident the NPP's argument would prevail at the Supreme Court, considering the quality of evidence the party took time to assemble and present to the Court.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, resumed hearing of a joinder motion filed by the governing National Democratic Congress seeking to be joined to the case as a respondent.

The Court adjourned the hearing last Thursday, after the petitioners objected to the composition of the panel of judges sitting but later withdrew their objections, saying they wanted a speedy resolution of the matter.
