Oye Lithur, Prof. Opoku Agyeman, others to face vetting today

Embattled minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur will today face the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting.

Nana Oye Lithur’s nomination has been met with fierce opposition from the clergy and some members of the public.

They argue that the human rights activist may compromise the stance of the nation on homosexuality if given the position.

The International Clergy Association has formally petitioned the Appointments Committee of Parliament, to register its reservation about the nomination.

Others to face the Appointments Committee include; Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, Minister designate for Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Omane Boamah, Communication, Prof Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, Minister designate for Education, Dr Oteng Agyei , Minister designate Environment, Science Technology and Innovation.

Meanwhile, the minority is continuing its boycott of the vetting process.

On Tuesday, the Minority did not participate in discussing the report on the first batch of ministerial nominees vetted.
