Non-performing ministers must be sacked - Pratt Jnr.

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper and a member of the Socialist forum, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has called on President John Dramani Mahama to sanction his ministers and deputy minister nominees when they fail to execute their duties proficiently.

He appealed to the President to walk his talk and ensure that his appointees work diligently to better the economy.

Making his submissions on “Kokrokoo” programme on Peace FM Tuesday morning, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. raised several concerns about the lackadaisical attitudes of some government officials and hoped President Mahama will adopt the necessary steps to deal with such misconducts.

He was keen about the characters of the Ministers and their deputies, calling for any person who exploits his position to disadvantage the nation to be shown the exit.

He explained that some cabinet members tend to be arrogant and do not comport themselves as soon as their status is elevated. This he noted does not augur well because they are acting on the mandate of Ghanaians.

To him, President Mahama should crack the whip on any cabinet member whose actions may serve as a disgrace to the nation as a deterrent to other members.

He believes that such action by the President is the right way to go in order to make the Ministers and the deputy nominees industrious as they undertake their official duties.

He also advised the Ministers and the newly appointed deputies to avail themselves and address the challenges that the country is grappling with and further called on Ghanaians to give them room to work.

“Everybody who’s given this job should be humble and think about the interest of the nation to know that the nation is saddled with lots of challenges.

“Let’s give them way and observe what they are capable of doing. But if anybody slacks in his or her duty, whether NDC or NPP, scrap this aside because we have given them work to do. So if they come and are unable to work or they become proud, let’s call on the President to sack them.” he told host, Kwame Sefa-Kayi.

About 91 cabinet members have been appointed by President Mahama. Several critics have raised questions about the numbers, but Kwesi Pratt disputes the figures, however urging the President not to hesitate to sack the incompetent ones.
