“Musicians should scrutinise contracts before signing deals with telecommunication networks”

The Business Development Manager of Empire Entertainment, organizers of the annual ‘Ghana meets Naija’ and ‘Back in the Day Concert’, Kevin Adisi has advised Ghanaian musicians to be careful when signing ambassadorial deals with telecommunication networks.

He counseled them to consider some key clauses in these contracts before signing them but not just consider the money it comes along with.

Zionfelix.com can confirm that most musicians who signed deals with one of the telecommunication companies as their brand ambassador failed to renew their contracts because of the failure to perform at events organised by other telecommunication networks.

Briefing the press on Monday, April 14 about this year’s Ghana meets Naija concert slated for May 24, Mr Adisi said, some clauses in the contract which restrict the musician from performing at other telecommunication networks sponsored events affect the artiste negatively.

He stated that “going forward these are some of the challenges the artiste might be facing. If the artiste doesn’t take care, he might hit the rock because you will not get shows to play and you will now have sets back coming in your career.”

He continued that “the signing of these artistes to telcos is creating problem for this industry and that is why the media have to advise these artistes to take a second look at some key clauses before they sign the contract because it depends on them to actually read the contracts and sign.”

He mentioned D’banj as an artiste who has signed a deal with a telecommunication network and yet performs on shows organized by the competitors of the telecommunication network.

“There are some artistes who have signed onto telcos and are allowed to perform on other shows. D’banj and the rests, they have done shows on other telcos platforms and they don’t get problems. It’s a matter of the clauses, they state it out and make it clear cut that look, you should not restrict me but maybe our guys (musicians), well”

He admitted that artistes signing onto telecommunication networks will affect event organizers but not as much as it will have on the musician.

“It will affect us too but definitely we have other alternatives. There will be other artistes that will be releasing hit bangers year after years so it wouldn’t affect much as an event organizer as the artiste will suffer. I will have my event every year and you will not be able to perform every year because if telcos are sponsoring and they are not your telcos, then it means you can’t perform. We can attest to that fact that there are some musicians who have not had a show for the past years because of this same problem.”

Sarkodie, Guru, Castro, Kwadwo Nkansah Liwin and Asamoah Gyan will lead Ghanaian musicians to face Davido, Kcee, and Wizboy from Nigeria for the fourth edition of Ghana meets Naija scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at the Accra International Conference Center.
