National Chief Imam breaks fast with Akufo-Addo

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, who, along with other Muslims, is observing the month-long fast of Ramadan, Tuesday evening broke his fast with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at his Nima residence.

This event, which was at the request of Nana Akufo-Addo, had chiefs and opinion leaders from the Muslim community in the Greater Accra region, 7 NPP Muslim Members of Parliament and leaders of the New Patriotic Party, as well as the general public being present.

Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, on arrival, was met by Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Sheikh I.C. Quaye and Mustapha Abdul Hamid.

After breaking their fast with water and fruits, the Chief Imam led the gathering in prayer, after which they shared a meal.

Nana Akufo-Addo thanked the Chief Imam for granting his request. Akufo-Addo paid tribute to Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu’s life, legacy and significant contributions towards national development, describing him as a “Father to all Ghanaians.”

He prayed the Almighty Allah grants him longer life to continue to bless this nation with his wisdom and experience. He thanked the Chief Imam for gracing his home by his presence and observed that by his presence, his home had become a holy place.

Nana Akufo-Addo also asked the gathering to pray particularly strongly for the nation because of the difficult times in which Ghanaians currently find themselves. He explained that it was because of the hardships that have engulfed the nation that he, together with others, have put themselves up for national leadership.

In this regard, Nana Akufo-Addo asked for support and prayers for himself and his right hand man, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also a Muslim.

Nana Addo called for unity in all facets of national life, explaining that he believed in the “unity of our nation, unity of tribes, unity of sexes and unity of religions, for it is in that unity that we find strength.”

“When you pray, think of me and pray for me. Ask Allah to give me wisdom, strength, long life and a good heart to achieve the vision I have for this country,” Nana Addo added.

On behalf the Chief Imam, Alhaji Baba Issa thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for inviting them to his home, and was grateful for the courtesy accorded them. He asked Allah to bless Nana Akufo-Addo and reward him abundantly.
