Ghana duo to officiate at World Swimming competition

Two Ghanaian Swimming Officials would officiate in this year's Federation International de Nation (FINA) World Junior Championships to be held in Dubai.

The two are the current technical directors of the Ghana Swimming Association, Kwame Kpodoh and Helena Williams.

They become the first in the history of the country to officiate at a world swimming event.

Kwame Kpodoh who doubles as a member of the technical swimming committee of the Africa swimming federation last officiated in the Africa junior championship zone 2 held in Akure Nigeria last year.

Helena Williams, a lecturer at the University of Ghana and staunch member of the Ghana Swimming federation has been instrumental in organizing most swimming competitions in the country and on the continent.

The duo came through a rather rigorous selection procedure by the Switzerland based Swimming Body unscathed with Kwame Kpodoh shared his excitement with Joy Sports.

"For now am very delighted, I was not expecting it but I think it is good news for Ghana swimming. It is the first time we are having officials at a major world event. I think I was lucky because I was chosen from over three hundred officials," he said.

Helena Williams could not hide her joy either when JOY Sports caught up with her.

"It's the highest place I can be in my career. I am so excited and I think the country should be proud that we are representing them at such a level, I’m honored and grateful," she said.

The 15th edition of the World Junior Swimming Championship would be staged in Dubai from the August 26 to 31.
