I’ll win a world title this year – Tagoe

Emmanuel Tagoe, World Boxing Authority (WBA) International Lightweight champion has vowed to win a world title by the close of the year.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, Tagoe said having won several domestic and international titles, he is now ready for the world title and looking forward to the challenge soon.

Tagoe, who is scheduled to fight Robald Pontillas of Philippines on Friday, April 26, at the Lebanon House in Accra, for the WBA and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Super Featherweight Championship under the auspices of Baby Jet Promotions and Box Office Promotions stated “I want to assure the President of Ghana that, I would bring a world title to him by the end of 2013.

“The president should be looking forward to receiving a world title from me by the close of the year. I’m determined to carry the name of Ghana high on the international scene,” Tagoe indicated.

“I have always said I am the King of Boxing, though nobody has crowned me, but I decided to crown myself, because it was divine and I would exhibit that when I meet the Philipino later in the month.

“Ghanaians know what I am capable of doing and I am not going to disappoint them. I would demolish Pontillas before the close of the sixth round,” he declared.

Also appearing on the bill would be an eight round International Lightweight contest between George Ashie and Michael Odhiambo of Kenya, with Michael Ansah and Abraham Osei-Bonsu going for the National Super Featherweight Championship. Isaac Quaye would take on Abner Shidjuu of Namibia in a ten round Commonwealth eliminator, with Ahmed Saraku battling Alani Sulaimon in a six round International Middleweight contest.

Prince Dzanie and Albert Commey would be in another six round Batamweight contest, whilst Osumanu Akaba and Felix Williams are scheduled to take on separate opponents are yet to be mentioned by the organizers.
