The “Catch Them Young” schools outreach programme initiated by the Ghana Rugby Association reaches another stage in Accra this week.
This year’s edition of the SG-SSB Bank-sponsored programme has travelled to Cape Coast already, and will next be held at the Kanda Cluster of Schools, starting tomorrow. Schools participating in the programme will receive rugby balls.
In attendance will be the president of the Ghana Rugby Association, Gifty Elspeth Annan-Myers, representatives from SG-SSB Bank, the Director of Training and other board members of the GRA.
In a statement , the GRA said it would, in partnership with volunteer coaches in a number of regions, manage to spread the game across the country through school coaching.
It said the programme would be forerun by the Director of Training, Abdul Samad Said, and the Development Director, Ernest Hanson of the GRA board.
“We wish to express our sincerest gratitude to our media partners and our dedicated rugby players and coaches who have offered their services in the attempt to make this program a success,” the statement said.
“We also wish to inform the general public that rugby has come to stay and this is just the first phase of a programme we wish to continue for the foreseeable future,” it added.
It urged interested schools that may not already be on the GRA’s list to contact the association at www.ghanarugby.org to register their interest.
