Commonwealth Games: Ghanaian athletes 'wash-and-wear'; received one kit each

Ghanaian athletes who will be competing for honours in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were furious after receiving one kit each to compete in their respective disciplines.

Reports indicate that the athletes received one kit each which they will have to depend on solely throughout their campaign in Glasgow.

“You know we had no kits when we were leaving. This evening the things came but instead of giving out two or more, they just gave everybody one saying there has been some mix-up with some other countries which we don’t know”, a close source to team Ghana revealed to Ghanasportsonline.com in an exclusive chat.

“This means the athletes will have to do “wash and wear”. The guys [athletes] are really furious. They are not happy”, the source added.

The team since their departure to Glasgow has been facing problems with kits and equipment making it difficult for them to train.

Ghana will be competing in ten disciplines in this year’s Commonwealth Games and will for the first time take part in Swimming and Shooting.

Ghana won three medals four years ago in New Delhi [India]. The country has won 55 medals in total since its maiden participation in 1958.
