MISSION STATEMENTGAST shall become an Association par excellence for the promotion of teaching and learning of science and technology at all levels of pre-tertiary education in Ghana, through the development of creative, enterprising, innovative and morally responsible science and technology teachers and laboratory technicians OUR VISIONGAST shall become an association that embraces all categories of science and technology teachers and laboratory technicians positioned to lead the way in functional science and technology education. WHAT WE AREA professional association of Science and technology Teachers and laboratory technicians, the largest scientific Association in Ghana, and the oldest in Africa that started associating in Cape Coast and Accra in 1952 circa. The Association was formally launched on 4th November, 1955 at the University of Ghana Legon. OUR AIMSv To promote effective teaching of science and technology in pre-university institutions in Ghana v To provide opportunity for science and technology teachers to continuously improve upon their professional services v To promote a spirit of co-operation among science and technology teachers and provide a medium through which opinions of science and technology teachers in Ghana may be expressed on education matters, particularly science and technology education. v To co-operate with other related organizations, for instance the Ghana Science Association, in the popularization of Science in the country v To co-operate and affiliate with similar organizations in African States and elsewhere for the promotion of science and technology education generally. v To organize such functions as may be likely to promote the above aims.
WHAT WE DOMembers teach the sciences and manage laboratories, develop instructional and curriculum materials/equipment. We also administer science and Computer departments and teach in the science Departments of Tertiary institutions Research in science education.We are always seeking to enhance the professional skills of members which in turn provide the cutting edge for our members to practice.Interact with civil society on our positions on issues of science education. OUR DELIVERY STRUCTURESThe affairs of the Association are managed bya) The Executive Board andb) The National Council The executive Board is made up of Nationals Officers i.e.Ø The president Ø National Secretary Ø Assistant National Secretary IØ Assistant National Secretary II andØ National TreasurerØ Representation of the Ghana Science Association (GSA)Ø Immediate Past President of the AssociationØ Chairmen of Standing Committees and co-opted members who have no voting rights. Research Committee The National Council is made up of the Executive Board Members, Regional Branch Chairmen, Subject Panel Convenors, Representatives of Mathematical Association of Ghana (MAG) and Curriculum Research and Development Division (CRDD of GES).
