Agbeko tops world ranking for Ghana

IBO bantamweight champion, Joseph “The fresh king Kong” Agbeko, has been ranked Ghana top boxer according to the August world ranking chart. The boxer, who claimed the new title on March 22 in a unanimous decision against Luis Melendez, is ranked 3rd, 4th 7th and 11th by four other world bodies.

The monthly world ranking places boxers according to their exploit in the fisticuffs game. Joseph Agbeko relied on his March 22 IBO bantamweight triumph at the Accra Sports Stadium to lead the pack of Ghanaian boxers on the ranking table.

He placed 3rd overall after the fight, WBO and IBF ranked him 4th, 7th and 11th in the 118 pounds division.

Cruiser Weight or Junior Heavyweight division saw Local Champion, Braimah Kamoko, aka, Bukom Banku, dropping from his previous 2nd place to 5th by the WBO.

He was again ranked 5th in the 175 pounds, Light Heavy Weight division by the WBA.

Two Ghanaians, Isaac Ekpo and Bastie Samir, were both ranked in the super middleweight division at 7th by WBO and 15th by WBA places while the IBF ranked Albert Mensah 8th in the Super Lightweight Division.

The impressive showmanship of Light Weights Raphael Mensah and Samuel Kotey Neequaye caught the attention of the WBA to rank them 9th and 10th in the division. The WBO ranked Maxwell Awku 6th and Emmanuel "The Game Boy" Tagoe 7th in the super featherweight division whilst the WBA gave 'the game boy' 13th place on its scale.

Conspicuously missing from the top 15 places on all five ranking bodies is the first ever middleweight title holder from Ghana, Osmanu Adama as well as former IBF super featherweight Champiom, Joshua Clottey, who makes a comeback fight next week.
