Djarbeng whips Okine to become new champion

West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) Welterweight titlist, Richmond Djarbeng, maintained his career hopes alive with a dominant victory over Stephen Okine at the Arts Centre in Accra to become the new WBA Pan-Africa Welterweight champion.

“It’s a dream come true, I’m so excited to be the WBA Pan-Africa champion. I thank my trainer, Coach Akese and my manager, Lydia Sarkor Nettey,” Djarbeng told AllSports.com.gh at ringside.

For a boxer who drew his debut career fight then lost the next two, Djarbeng never wavered and has now gone on to win all of his 17 fights to now stand at 17-2-1, 13 KOs.

The latest achieved last night in Ghana's capital was perhaps the most convincing that he is ready to take on the best Welterweights in the world.

Djarbeng took control of the fight from the opening round, hitting his opponent for fun and became very dominant in rounds 2 and 3. It became too much for Okine to take and many at ringside were not surprised when he failed to answer the bell for the 4th round.

Referee Roger Barnor had no choice than to raise the arm of Richmond Djarbeng who Box Office Sports Promotions hopes to get a crack at the WBA International Welterweight title in the UK in August.

Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President, Peter Zwennes and his lieutenants including 2nd Vice President, Rabbon Dodoo, were on hand to crown Richmond Djrabeng with his new belt.
