Ghana banks over Ghc1.4million from motor traffic fines

Sources at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning have revealed to The Informer that the country bagged over 1.4 million cedis paid as fines on motor traffic offences.

Giving the details, the source hinted that, for 2013 alone, motor traffic offenses fetched Ghana’s consolidated fund Ghc1,421,891.00 million Ghana cedis.

The above figure, according to this paper’s sources at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, is an increase of the 2012 figure of Ghc894,285.00.

However, there are suggestions that a percentage of the large fines that the judicial service impose on motor traffic offenders should be given to the Ghana Police Service.

This, according to the sources, will help the government in its attempt to properly equip the service.

With the current economic challenges confronting the nation, The Informer by the revelation above, is urging other institutions of state to give out their best in their revenue generation drive to enable government meet its projected expenditure in terms of development.
