Birim Central Agric Directorate appeals for support

The Birim Central Municipal Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has appealed for support from investors to partner it to complete its fertilizer depot.

Mr. Anthony Kodjo Prah, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, made the appeal when a team of GNA Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Projects inspected the building at Akyem Oda.

The GNA, STAR-Ghana Media Auditing and Tracking of Development project is an initiative to promote participatory democracy at the district level.

Mr. Prah said the depot, which was expected to serve farmers in the southern sector of the country, had been left uncompleted for 38 years now.

He said if the building is completed, it would make it possible for the government to bring in fertilizer to be supplied to farmers directly.

‘’Currently, government pays fertilizer companies to import fertilizers for sale to farmers,’’ he said.

Mr. Prah said the completion of the building would help make fertilizer affordable to farmers thereby increasing production.
