Ghana’s Present economic crisis is not Unique to Ghana, World Bank Group President

As World Bank Pledges Additional 100 million Dollars to Speed New Health workers to Ebola stricken countries


The World Bank Group president, Jim Yong kim has stated that Ghana’s present economic crises is not unique to Ghana and that countries around the world Europe have through one challenge or the other and that the world bank group would keep supporting Ghana and that the country needs fiscal consolidation and good investment climate
MMr Jim Yong Kim , Praised the President John Dramani Mahama for taking an important role in the response to the outbreak of Ebola, by being the host of UNMEER and by setting up a humanitarian air bridge into Guinea, Liberia ,and Sierra Leone, saying history will record the importance of what Ghana has done, that it has kept an open link to the three countries at a time when many countries around the world have closed their borders
.Mr. Jim Kim announced that the World Bank Group has made an additional 100 million dollars available to fill a critical gap in the Ebola response – funding to speed up deployment of up deployment of foreign health workers to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The world Bank Group President announced this on the 30th of October, when the world bank Group President Jim Yong Kim called on the vice President,Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur, at the Flagstaff House in Accra .
Mr Kim said with this latest grant, the World Bank Group funding for Ebola is fight over the last three months is now more than 500 million dollars.
He said in recent weeks, the international response to Ebola crises has improved significantly and that we have had some good news recently out of Liberia, involving a drop in recorded cases, although we should watch this very closely as this epidemic has had a history of surge numbers of cases
Mr. Kim went on to state that as for the overall response ,several major gaps remain and one of the largest is mobilizing enough international health teams to the three countries in order to contain the epidemic.
He said he had spent the last three days in the horn of Africa, where he’s heard some encouraging news about Africa’s response to the Ebola outbreak, first African Union Commission Chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Zumas commitment to help deploy 2000 trained health workers from African countries to affected nations ,, then President Uhuru Kenyatta, that 600 health workers have volunteered to work in the affected areas
Mr Jim Jong kim said the UNMEER ,and the WHO are to use the 100milion dollars to help create a surge of trained health works that we see so rarely ,as they saw in the successful campaign of small pox , Polio, and other outbreaks such as SARS and HINI
He admitted support of Ebola could have been done earlier, because they became aware since December 2013 but that was not their major area but came in because of the financial commitment involved so would work on it.
On his part the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur, thanked the world President to Ghana and welcomed him ,he said his coming was at the invitation of the government of Ghana and hoped that the intervention that they have put in place would help ameliorate in the three affected counties because of the way it has also affected their economies.
He said Ghana is not one of the countries that has closed it borders or put a ban on travelers and that Ghanaians don’t believe in that discrimination because we are an open country
