Nigerian authorities arrest fake Ghanaian doctor

A 28-year-old Ghanaian who was parading himself as a certified medical doctor in Lagos has been arrested by Nigerian authorities.

Michael Akorful was arrested on Wednesday by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and the Health Facility Monitoring Agent after he gave a wrong prescription to a patient at a private hospital in Festac Town, reports the Vanguard April 19, 2013.

Akorful was practising with a medical license which, according Nigerian officials, he stole in Ghana.

“From our investigation, it was revealed that he stole the document from Dr. Abiwu Hilarious Asiwome Kosi who resides in Ghana,” the Vanguard quoted Dr. Henry Okwuokenye, HOD, Inspectorate Department of MDCN as saying.

Dr Okwuokenye indicated that the licence was not given to Akorful by anybody, adding that he [Akorful] lived with Dr. Hilarious for two months from where he stole his licence.

But Akorful, according to the report, said a friend of his, one Obinna Uche, gave him the licence with which he was working to keep for him.

After interrogation, Akorful admitted that he stole the licence from Dr. Abiwu Hilarious, it was reported.
