Court remands farmer over goat theft

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante, has remanded a farmer, accused of goat theft, into prison custody. Nenkenese Asolo, 38, reportedly took advantage of the absence of the owner to steal the animal.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Friday, August 1. Police Detective Inspector Bismark Peasah said the crime was committed on July 10, at Odumase in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality.

The owner of the goat, Kojo Okoto Kwakye, had gone to the farm with his family and the accused sneaked into the house to steal one of the goats from its pen, worth GH¢250.00.

The prosecution said some people in the neighbourhood saw Asolo carrying the animal away and became suspicious.

They confronted him and sensing danger, he attempted to flee but he was arrested and handed over to the police. Kwakye later followed up to police station to make a formal report.
