.... African Youth Education Award

The CEO of TopAfric, Mr Desmond John Beddy over the weekend, was privileged to worship and address the Ghana Catholic Mission in Hamburg. The theme was “Education is The Key to Success”.

“I am a catholic product and owe my discipline and perseverance qualities to the catholic institution. And been on the Alter after several years to address this august congregation is not only a blessing, but gives a sense of home coming” he said.

He told the congregation it is time the African community in Germany begins to draw a Marshall plan for their existence, In this highly developed country nothing happens automatic. We must define what we want to be in ten years. This can’t be easy, since it is strange to our culture; however I am very confident we can achieve this if we have the right leadership in place. We plan excellent parties and funerals. It should therefore be possible to plan our further stay in Germany.

“My brothers and sisters, for 30 years ago we had a population of less 2000 Ghanaians living in Hamburg and its surroundings. Among them were medical practitioners like Dr. Doku, Dr Dokyi and Dr. Victoria Manu, who is incidentally with us today” he continued.

Today, unofficially we are over 10,000 and still talking about the old and retired doctors. I must be sincere to you; there is something wrong in our system. I am challenging all stakeholders to seriously put their heads together for a timely solution. "We have to tactically produce a quantitative Ghanaian community in Germany. The truth hurts, but we must not be afraid it; how long must we remain the least respected community in Germany?” He asked..

African Youth Education Award: The project initiated three years ago, aims at raising the educational and professional achievements of young African origin by empowerment approach. Increasing awareness of students of African origin on the importance and significance of education for their social and professional integration in Germany. The project is to motivate African kids in Germany to study or to learn a trade.

He thanked Rev. Father Anthony Amoako-Attah, the leadership and the congregation for their willingness to be part of this project (financially). The plain truth is that, educational projects attract the least sponsorship and support in the African communities in Germany.
