Asantefuohene of Washington welcomes black stars

The Asantefuohene of Washington Metropolitan Area, Nana Kofi Boateng and Nana Ama Achiaah, Washington Asantefuohemaa were the chairpersons on the occasion of the fundraising reception organized in honor of the Ghana Black Stars who were on their way to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup Tournament.

The event was held in Washington, DC at the Ghana Embassy to raise funds to support soccer funs who will be in Brazil to cheer the Ghana Black Stars on to victory. Several attendees donated generously towards this noble cause including the Chairpersons who donated an amount of $2,000.00.

Nana Kofi Boateng who is widely known for his generosity noted that it is always honorable when giving the opportunity to support ones country when the need arises and he gave the assurance that he will continue to help his community when ever he is called upon.

“As national players, your are the soccer ambassadors of Ghana and so I assure you today that the entire nation of mother Ghana is solidly behind you and we do appreciate your sacrifice"

The Asantefuohene of Washington Metro Area noted that before the Black Stars left the Ghana, the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama wished them farewell and tasked them to put forward their best for the nation.

Nana Kofi Boateng urged the players to continue to be disciplined both on and off the field of play and remarked that with discipline, determination and faith, victory will be achieved.

"I have already purchased my air ticket to Brazil to watch the Black Stars Quarter Final Match. This demonstrates the confidence I have in this team that you will make it there and beyond", the Chief, beaming with smiles, emphasized amidst cheers and standing ovation from the players and the audience.

Nana Kofi Boateng used the occasion to invite the public to this year's Asante Day Celebrations being organized by the Asanteman Council of North America (ACONA) and being hosted by the Asanteman Association of Washington Metro Area on Saturday August 30th, 2014 at Fort Hunt, 8999 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA.

There will be AsanteFest showcasing Grand Durbar and Cultural Show and on Sunday, August 31 St , 2014 at the Hilton Springfield, 6550 Loisdale Road, VA.22150.

The President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Kwasi Nyantakyi expressed the team's appreciation to the organizers and indicated that, the funds raised will be put into good use.

The head coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Dr. James Kwasi Appiah expected that, "we will always get your unflinching support and prayers"

The skipper of the Black Stars, Asamoah Djan, thanked the attendees on behalf of his team mates for their support.

The Asantefuohene was accompanied by his wife, Honorable Nana Mbrah, and his Special Adviser - Reverend Nana Yaw Amankwah. GFA'S Management Member - Mr Kwame Ofosu Bamfo , the Assistant Coach - Maxwell Knoadu, the Protocol Officer of GFA - Mr. Alex Asante, Ministers of State and Dr. Kwesi Botchway were all there to grace the occasion.
