Barclays Management, Union submit to mediation

Accra, Aug. 29, GNA 96 The Management and Union of Barclays Bank have submitted themselves to mediation by the National Labour Commission (NLC) as negotiations between the two parties on salaries are deadlocked.

The NLC has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday to discuss the issues, which revolve around the level of salary increases, Mr Gayheart Edem Mensah, Corporate Affairs Manager of Barclays Bank, told the GNA in Accra.

He said there was a slight hold-up on Tuesday morning that led to a delay in opening some of their branches because of the labour problem, but added; "we are working".

Mr Mensah could not give details of level of increase being demanded and what the Management was offering, saying some figures had been tabled but others were informal.

He said negotiations had been going on between Management and the Union but following the deadlock, the two parties decided to go through the mediation process at NLC.

"The NLC has had meetings with the Management and Staff... the NLC is fully in control," he said.
