“NPP is Pretty United”

The immediate past Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has rubbished claims in some quarters that the party he headed for four years is divided. Jake, as he is popularly known, is, therefore, hoping and anticipating that the results of the upcoming primaries will put to rest once and for all that the party is indeed united behind one candidate.

The former chairman made these observations during an exclusive interview with Ghananewsmedia.com held at his residence last Friday. “What I will say is that there is not as much as there will seem to be. There is a minority, and the minority is very loud, and because they are so loud, they drown out the silent majority. When you look at the noise, and you look at where it’s coming from, you realize it’s coming from the same people” he declare.

As to why he refers to them as a minority, Jake said, “they go from radio station to radio stations and make the same horrible ugly noise and make it seem like there is a big amount of acrimony, and there isn’t.” But the former Minister of Tourism in the Kufuor administration stated emphatically that the NPP has, in fact, never been this united.

The former NPP Chairman went on to waive off any possibility of a surprise in the primaries. He hopes and expects that “the Special Electoral College will give Nana Akufo-Addo such a ringing endorsement to send a clear message to the other contestants that the party would prefer that they find ways to help the campaign rather than continuing to challenge for the leadership.”

The full exclusive interview, which covered a wide range of issues relating to both party and nation, will be published on ghananewsmedia.com on Monday August 18, 2014.
