Kwabena Agyepong treating us like kids - Freddy Blay

Party supporters who hitherto do not believe that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was sowing seeds of self-destruct to be harvested only in 2016, would have to reconsider their thoughts.

The truth of self-destruct politics - of vendetta in the NPP dawned on supporters last Friday when the First Vice Chairperson, Mr. Freddie Blay, who is also the proprietor of the Daily Guide newspaper, went berserk on Asempa FM, one of the multimedia group of media outlets in Accra.

The reason for Mr. Freddie Blay’s public outburst was that Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, the newly-elected NPP General Secretary, had asked the Party’s deputy Communications Director, Mr. Perry Curtis Kwabla Okudzeto to take his two (2) years accumulated leave effective Monday 18th August, 2014.

According to him, some of the decisions by Kwabena Agyepong are in total contravention of the party’s constitution, and revealed how he (Kwabena Agyepong) has been treating them (members of the National Executive) as kids.

Mr. Blay observes that, Kwabena Agyepong does not involve them in some major decisions that he takes as National Executives, and without mincing words expressed the discomfort of members about the party’s General Secretary’s snobbish attitude.

“Kwabena Agyepong is taking so many things for granted; he should know the NPP is not his property,” Mr. Blay is also reported to have said.

According to him, Kwabena Agyapong is running more than his legs can carry him; indicating that he (Kwabena Agyepong) is over stepping his powers’ bound as General Secretary, by taking decisions “which will gravely affect us as a party."

However, Mr. Perry Okudzeto in an interview with JOY FM last Friday, recounted how he was asked to take his accumulated leave.

He said, “I was invited for a meeting in the party offices and subjected to several rounds of questions and answer sessions after which I was asked to proceed on leave."

Though he claims not to be worried by the development, things should have been done in the proper manner since the NPP is a party of rules.

A copy of Mr. Perry Okudzeto’s letter signed by Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, intercepted by The Informer reads; “please be informed that you have been granted Two (2) years accumulated leave. You have accumulated leave for Four (4) years.

However, we are able to grant you Two (2) years leave. This translates into Forty (40) working days. Your leave will take effect from Monday, 18th August 2014.

You are required to prepare your Handing-Over Notes and submit to the Ag. Director of Finance and Administration.

Kindly complete the process by Friday, 15th August, 2014. You are also to leave your Contact Details to facilitate contact with Headquarters while you are on leave."
