‘NDC used state vehicles for registration’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency of the Western Region has been accused of using state vehicles to bus people from their respective locations to some registration centres in Sefwi Wiawso to register during the just-ended limited registration by the Electoral Commission (EC).

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the alleged move was part of attempts by the NDC to coerce young people in the area to register and probably vote for the party in the country’s general elections.

A source within the NDC in Sefwi Wiawso divulged this information to DAILY GUIDE in an interview.

The source, a staunch NDC member, indicated that some party executives in the Sefwi Wiawso constituency, who had been assigned some governmental duties illegal used state resources during the limited registration exercise.

The source particularly cited the constituency secretary of the NDC in Sefwi Wiawso, Akowuah Gyaben, who had been appointed the Municipal Coordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ghana Education Service.

The NDC source, who provided some pictures to DAILY GUIDE to buttress his point, alleged that the municipal Non-Formal Education coordinator transported some young boys from Brakuline and other places in his official pick-up to some registration centres.

According to the source, he was unhappy with the move because even though the people of Sefwi Wiawso have been voting massively for the NDC in all general elections in the country, the party had neglected the people in terms of development projects.

He stressed that the constituency executives for the past years had been working hard at the polling station level to ensure victory for the party in the Sefwi area.

The people of Sefwi have been lambasting the executives of the NDC in the area and described them as liars because the government has failed to fulfill its promises to the people of Sefwi, he noted.

The source told DAILY GUIDE that he decided to make the revelation because of the conduct of the NDC.

“I can tell you that the people of Sefwi have lost confidence in the NDC. The party thinks that development or no development, the people of Sefwi will vote for them. But let me tell you the people are now awake,” he alleged.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted the Sefwi Wiawso constituency secretary of the NDC, Akowuah Gyaben, he confirmed conveying about 10 young boys from Brakuline to Aboagyekrom registration centre in the area to register during the exercise.

He, however, indicated that he did not use the state vehicle to convey the people.

He explained that when he got to Brakuline on his normal monitoring exercise, he saw some boys numbering about 10 who told him they wanted to go and register, but were stranded.

“So since I was with my driver alone in the car, I decided to pick them to Aboagyekrom to register and after that I came back. Does that mean that I was conveying people from one centre to another? I think the information you were given was distorted,” he stressed.
