NPP MP: Agyapong targeting perceived Akufo-Addo loyalists

Tema East MP, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, says he believes the General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyapong, is on a mission to systematically purge the NPP’s leadership of perceived Akufo-Addo loyalists.

Titus-Glover’s suspicion follows Agyapong’s alleged unilateral appointment of some communications Officers for the party, as well as his directive to the acting Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto, to proceed on his accumulated leave.

“If we don’t reverse this decision, the next to follow are Director of Elections, Agyei Mensah Korsah and the Director of International Relations, Martin Owiredu," Titus-Glover said Monday.

In his view, the former presidential aspirant perceives Okudzeto and these other personalities as supporters of two-time presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, and thus, must be uprooted from their leadership positions, to make room for other people that he (Agyapong) feels comfortable with.

The Legislator says Agyapong’s behaviour risks frittering away unity within the biggest opposition party ahead of the 2016 elections. “In this time that you are working so hard to come to power, you are telling your deputy director who is acting for you, to proceed on leave,” he said on private FM station, Joy.

Agyapong has come under a deluge of criticism after his recent appointments and directives.

Party Stalwarts including first vice-chairman Freddie Blay, Council Member Dr Kwame Amoako–Tuffuor, Northern Regional Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu and Upper East Regional Chairman Adams Mahama, have all expressed anger at the Secretary’s decision. The party has fixed an emergency meeting over the matter.
