Akufo-Addo donates GHC50,000 to Winneba Youth Choir

President Akufo-Addo has donated an amount of GHC50,000 to Winneba Youth Choir at their 30th-anniversary celebration which was held in Accra.

In his address at the ceremony, the president extolled the choir describing their works in the past years as ‘illustrious’

He praised the board and patrons of the group for creating a platform for the development of the youth in Winneba and surrounding towns through the medium of singing.

“It was 27years ago that the late vice president Kow Nkensen Arkaah introduced me to these people. Distinctively I was enchanted and I’ve remained enchanted for the last 27 years. I congratulate each and every one of them for this wonderful music they’ve given us all these years.

They are part of the reason I continue to have a strong belief in the country. I’m not going to be here for the fundraising but I’ll release my gesture before I go, so they say I run away from the fundraising. I have 50,000 cedis and it’s my contribution to the choir” he stated

Board Chairman for Winneba Youth Choir, Mr Edusei Derkyi detailed that beyond the entertainment value, the Choir seeks to provide an opportunity for the youth to appreciate the full potential of choral music in the development of the country.

The choir treated audiences at the ceremony to the various rendition of classical, choral and African traditional music while the audiences were glued to their seats, listening with admiration. Occasionally, some in the audience stood to dance to the melodious tunes being rendered.

A team of Government officials were also fully represented, led by President Akufo-Addo and his wife Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Dr S.K.B Asante, Former Chief Justice Georgina Wood and many others.

The Choir, known to be one of the topmost choral music group in the country was founded in May 1989, under the patronage of Mr. George Mensah-Essilfie and Mr. John Francis Arthur-Yamoah (Paa John) and has since progressed steadily.
