Three school projects begin in Gomoa East District

Gomoa Abonyi, Feb 28, GNA - The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East in the Central Region, Mr Isaac Kingsley Ehunu-Armah, on Thursda= y cut the sod for the construction of three school projects in the District. The beneficiary communities are Gomoa Abonyi, Gomoa Ayensudzi and Gomo= a Oguaakrom.

The projects include a six-classroom block with library and toilet facilities at Ayensudzi, a three- classroom block with library, toilet facility, office and store at Gomoa Abonyi and a two-classroom block, offic= e and store for kindergarten (KG) at Gomoa Oguaakrom.

The total cost of the projects being funded by the District Developmen= t Fund is estimated at GHc4 million. Mr Ehunu-Armah said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President Professor Evans Atta Mills, is determined to eliminate the shift system and schools under trees. It is in this regard that the government has started extensive rehabilitation of existing structures in bad condition and construction of new ones, he said.

The DCE said the assembly had started 10 school projects being finance= d by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET-Fund) as part of efforts to fulfil the promise made in the Party's 2008 electioneering campaign to the peopl= e of Gomoa East.

Mr Ehunu-Armah said the government's 93Better Ghana Agenda" was o= n course, adding that the development of human resource and infrastructure continued to top the priorities on the government's policies and programm= es. He said the District scored 48 per cent in the 2008 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and had 51 per cent in the 2010 BECE, and attributed the success to motivation of teachers, constant supply of teaching aids and regularly conducting mock examinations for final year students of Junior High Schools in the District. The DCE said the Assembly had completed the construction of a clinic a= t Gomoa Ekwamkrom while six classroom blocks, store, library, office and two-seater toilet were under construction at Gomoa Asiebu/Pomadze ADA primary school. He said the government had kept faith with the people in the Gomoa East, especially, and urged them to continue to support President Mills and retain him in power in the next elections. Mr Ekow Okyere Panyin, Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, said he ha= d purchased eight sewing machines and other industrial machines for some yout= h to learn trades to make them self-reliant.

Mrs Augustina King, Gomoa East Deputy Director of Education, urged the parents to encourage their children, especially the girl child, to attend school.
