The Day Akufo Addo met Drug Barons At Le Baron Hotel

Nana Akufo Addo is finished! The lies he has clanged on to all these years that he is not involved in any deals with drug barons have finally caught up with him!

Intelligence documents intercepted by this paper and allied papers point to the fact that he is deeply involved with drug barons; they are his major financiers especially as far as his political ambition is concerned!

Just about a fortnight ago, precisely on Tuesday, 27th May, 2014, he caused his office to react to a publication by ‘The Republic’ newspaper which asserted that busted drug baron, David Anim of Le Baron Hotel is one of his financiers. In the press statement signed by his Press Secretary, Eugene Arhin, Akuffo Addo claimed that “Mr. David Anim is not a friend” and that he “does not recollect ever having met him”

The denial went on to urge “Ghanaians to disregard these stories, which have proven over the years to be deliberate ploys by pro-NDC papers to try to tarnish and damage..” his image.

The smoking gun however is finally out; the intercepted intelligence document clearly indicates that Akufo Addo lied in that press statement; he knows the busted drug baron, David Anim VERY WELL, had been a frequent visitor to his hotel, and that he was in fact one of the numerous drug barons who finances his campaign.

The intercepted intel report was apparently put together after several months of putting David Anim under surveillance and more importantly, after a fund raising programme held at the conference room of Le Baron Hotel by drug barons and which was attended by Akufo Addo himself. The details of the fund raising programme as captured in the intel report were as followings;

• The meeting was attended by about 30 persons

• Two of the thirty were females

• The meeting was held on 08/01/12

• The meeting was held between 1900hrs and 2045hrs

• The meeting took place at the Conference room of Le Baron Hotel

• The purpose of the meeting was to raise funds to support Akufo Addo’s 2012 Presidential campaign

• Among the guests present were David K. Anim, owner of Le Baron Hotel. Also present were Ebenezer Antwi Nkansah a.k.a Azure, a shareholder of First Azure Company Limited, one Ben, Bismark Ohene, alias ‘Chief’, Charles Opoku Darko and owner of CODCO Real Estates Limited, who were all described as drub barons.

• Akufo Addo, described by the intel report as a Former guest of Le Baron arrived at the meeting at 1900hrs in a white saloon Jaguar with registration number GS 3052-09.

• The participants were cocaine dealers and ‘shady businessmen”.

• Akufo Addo was escorted quickly to the mini conference room at the First Floor of the hotel soon after he arrived

• Language spoken at the meeting was mostly Akan

• At the meeting, the argument was made that the current NDC government was making life difficult for businessmen like themselves under the pretext of fighting the drug menace. The call was therefore made to support Akufo Addo.

• Akufo Addo left the meeting at 2045hrs.

According to the intel report, after Akufo Addo left, those who attended were seen in groups discussing the importance of financing Akufo Addo to win the 2012 elections for their own good.

On David Anim, the report stated that “…he has been engaged in narcotic drug trafficking in the recent past and was arrested with two others in 2003.

“He is one of several financiers of Akufo-Addo and is about to donate 60 motorbikes from China to him for his campaign. The inscription on the motorbike is PATRIOT.

“David Anim is the owner of “Le Baron Hotel” at America House Area, East Legon where the motorbikes are being assembled.

Though Kennedy Agyapong was not present at that fateful meeting, the report on him said “…he has been a regular patron of the hotel between 2009 and early 2012…he and Nana Akufo-Addo are long times associates of David Anim.”

David Anim and Joseph Nwabueze were busted in September 2003 for the importation of a 20-foot container with number PONU364517 on board a vessel called Walurundi loaded with sacks of rice. It arrived at the Tema port on September 15, 2003. Found in it was 48kg of cocaine concealed among the sacks of rice.

In 2010, both David Anim and Joseph Nwabueze were again involved in another drug trafficking case. The case was interesting. A vessel was busted with cocaine in it. The Bill of Lading found on the vessel indicated that the consignee of the container in which the cocaine was found was Consolidated Shipping Services. But the consignee was entered into the CEPs book as Formula Plus African Ltd.

How the name of the consignee was changed remains a mystery. David Anim and Joseph Nwabueze were however arrested.

David Anim was involved once more in a drug case in 2012. Once of his associates, Florante Atienza, a Philippino, arrived in Ghana on 1st December 2011. He was housed at Le Baron Cottage at Labone in Accra. He later travelled to Nigeria and returned to Ghana on 8th January 2012. He relocated to the Le Baron Hotel at East Legon. Then on 10th January, 2012, he was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport by NACOB/ Operation West Bridge officials on a Belgium Interpol warrant on drug charges. He was to be extradited to Belgium but due to the efforts of David Anim, he was rather deported under bizarre circumstances.

David Anim was well connected so despite his many arrests, he always managed to get out of the grips of the law and sometimes extended his connections to get his busted pals out. He is in custody currently in London after he was busted at Heathrow with a quantity of cocaine!

On the Patriot motorbikes, the intel report has it that Akufo Addo was busy on the day of collection so it was Jake Okanta Obetsebi Lamptey, then National Chairman of the NPP who went for them, numbering between 60 and 64 on 11-09-2014 between 1600hrs and (7000GMT) at the Le Baron Hotel. He carted the motors away on two trailer trucks.

Indeed, Akufo-Addo’s lies have caught up with him. The man who wants to be President of Ghana is financed by drug barons!
