Appiah: I’ve not retired from football

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has reiterated that he has not yet retired from football and could make a surprise return.

The former Juventus midfielder was part of Ghana’s backroom staff at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and called time on his international career after the 2010 global showpiece.

Appiah told Accra-based Joy FM that he may be inactive now but that does not mean he has retired from club level football.

“I haven’t announced my retirement yet and since this is football, you never say never,” Appiah said.

The ‘Tornado’ noted that he is fit and is keeping his shape in anticipation of a possible deal this transfer period.

He added: “Anything can happen and even though I have been asked this question several times, I am still training and as you can see I’m still fit and strong and we will see.”

Appiah captained the Black Stars to their maiden World Cup in Germany 2006 and also at South Africa 2010. He has played for Udinese, Parma and Brescia in Italy. He has also featured for Fenerbahce in Turkey, Cesena in the Serie A before wrapping up in Serbia with Vojvodina.
