Cape Verde leapfrog Ghana in rankings

Tiny West African country, Cape Verde is surprisingly leading Ghana on the latest Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), rankings released on Thursday, October 23.

Cape Verde are ranked 33rd on the international scene, whilst they are placed fourth on the continent.

Ghana, on the other hand, are placed 35 on the FIFA ranking and fifth on the continent, following the recent inconsistent performances in the qualifiers.

The new ranking however means that, Ghana has dropped two places down, after placing 33 in the September ranking released by FIFA. Leading the continental ranking is Algeria, Cote D’ Ivoire and Tunisia, who placed second, first, second and third.

Current African champions Nigeria, is currently ranked 44th on the world and ninth on the continental level.

Though Nigeria, put up an impressive performance in the World Cup, have seen downward trend in the Africa Cup qualifiers and are struggling to book a place in the next Africa Cup of Nations.
