Ministry’s failure to fund Queens is disgraceful – Anita Asante

England Women’s national team and FCR Malmo center back, Anita Asante has labeled the Sports Ministry’s failure to adequately fund the Black Queens campaign at the 2014 Africa Women’s Championship as disgraceful.

The Black Queens almost boycotted their Group B opener against Algeria at the Namibia 2014 tournament due to the financial difficulties facing the team in camp. Though the Sports Ministry’s accountant arrived in the Black Queens camp shortly after Ghana’s final group B match against Cameroon to pay up allowances to the ladies, the Queens are still owed 6000 USD in bonuses for making it to the Championship.

“It’s absolutely disgraceful because what happened to the girls is not good for team morale.”

“They went there to represent the nation, and first, they need to eat and should be in good health and also expected to be in good condition to deliver for the nation, so if all they are deprived of all these, then it’s a shame,” Ama added in an interview with Starr Fm.
