No Hearts player deserves Stars call up – Arhinful

Ex Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has passed a damning verdict over the quality of players at Hearts of Oak, insisting no single player from the Accra-based club is worthy of a Black Stars call up.

There is an ongoing debate as to whether home-based players deserve call ups to the Black Stars which has been recently dominated by foreign-based players.

While Premier League Board chief Welbeck Abra-Appiah is pushing for a quota system in the national team for locally-based players, Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi insists only the best players will be invited regardless of where they play.

But former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful after seeing at least four matches of Hearts of Oak he is convinced none of their players have the quality for a national team call up not even leading scorer Gilbert Fiamenyo.

“I have seen about four or five matches of Hearts of Oak this year and I have never been impressed,” he told Skyy Power FM.

“No one can tell me that Hearts of Oak currently, one of their players deserve to be in the Black Stars.

“I have watched Gilbert Fiamenyo play, even his attitude in the game is not the best.

“He is a good goal scorer but 70 percent of the time he is walking so who does the job to present him scoring opportunities?

“We have to do constructive arguments and criticisms so that we can move on as a people.”
