The torch relay for the All-Regional Games 2024 arrived in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, to a resounding welcome from an enthusiastic crowd at the Regional Coordinating Council (R.C.C.).

After meeting with the Regional Coordinating Director, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, who represented the Regional Minister, Team Gyan carried the flaming torch through some of Wa's principal streets.

With the police maintaining order, Gyan held the torch aloft, walking with it and responding to cheers from onlookers and admirers.

The relay was marked by a vibrant display, featuring a brass band and a sound system on a truck, which was followed by a procession of dancers, adding a colourful spectacle to the event.

During the tour, Asamoah Gyan reunited with one of his former teammates from the Black Stars.

"As I continue the All-Regional Games tour in the Northern Region today, I met my former teammate Aziz in Tamale. Aziz and I played on the same colts team, Great Cedabs. He was such a tough defender; back in the day, you dared not get past him on the field. It was all joy today... fresh memories," he said.

The inaugural edition of the All-Regional Games is scheduled to be held in November 2024, as announced by the organisers.

The All-Regional Games will feature competitions across nine sporting disciplines: football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, tennis, table tennis, boxing, e-sports, and arm-wrestling.
