Some residents of Asokwa in the Ashanti Region say they will retain the Member of Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, citing infrastructural developments, particularly roads and electricity.

Speaking on the Campaign Trail with Ernestina Serwaa Asante, they pointed out that despite ongoing challenges with access to potable water and the disposal of waste in the community, a situation that affects their livelihoods, they will still vote for Patricia Appiagyei.

"She has performed creditably. But we cannot give her all the credit. Our main challenge is the refuse dam, which is breeding mosquitoes here. Recently, we were told that there will be some chemicals to spray the area, but we are still battling malaria.

"We can't sit outside at night because of mosquitoes. We need her to intervene. Additionally, we have don't have access to potable water. We rely on water provided by the government. When we try to fetch water from the homes of others, we are turned away," one resident stated.

They also acknowledged her efforts in constructing roads and enhancing the local infrastructure.

"She has done well by constructing roads. We also have good roads and electricity. Our only challenge remains the refuse damp. We want our MP to tackle it for us," another said.

Others also emphasised that they always consider the track record of their MP when voting.

"I always consider the MP's performance when voting. Twenty-two years ago, when I moved to this area, the road was very dusty. It was in 2023 that the road was constructed. We have no issues with electricity as well."

Another resident also shared similar sentiments: "We know what Mama Pat has done for constituents. If the National Democratic Congress gives me money, I will collect it, but I won't vote for the candidate. I will vote for the incumbent MP."

Patricia Appiagyei is one of the longest-serving female Members of Parliament in the 8th Parliament.

She served in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Parliaments after she joined parliament in 2009 on the ticket of the NPP.
