The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has claimed that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; is going to be the new Majority Leader, following the nomination of the current leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, as Minister of Finance Designate.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, January 9, 2024, Afenyo-Markin also claimed that the MP for Cape Coast South, Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, is going to take over from Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah as Deputy Majority Leader, who, he said, will be appointed as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.

The Minority Leader also alleged that the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, is going to be the Majority Chief Whip, taking over from Kwame Governs Agbodza, who he claims will also be nominated for a ministerial position.

He added that the Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, will be appointed as Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation.

“I can see the incoming Majority Leader and his deputy conferring… Those of us in opposition, we know more things than those of you in government. So, if you ask me, I can tell you all of you where you are going. But you don’t know. That is how it is.

“I know Armah Kofi Buah is going to Lands… We know. Ahmed Ibrahim is going to Local Government. And a lot of you remain at the back bench. Mr Speaker, Honourable Acheampong has done so well, I will be surprised if he’s not sent to the Ministry of Finance as deputy. I will be surprised. And Dr Apaak is definitely going to Education as deputy education minister."

He added, “Mr Speaker, we know. That’s why I know Hon Ayariga is going to assume the black chair (Majority Leader) and his deputy is my good friend, Kweku Ricketts. Yes, Kweku is going to be the Deputy Minority Leader.”

President John Dramani Mahama, has meanwhile, made his first set of nominations for ministerial positions.

They are Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister of Finance-designate; John Abdulai Jinapor, as the Minister of Energy-designate; while the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, is the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Designate.
