Following the announcement of extensive renovations in the Chamber of Parliament, concerns have been raised regarding the costs associated with using the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for parliamentary sittings since parliament was recalled last week

It would be recalled that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin announced a month ago that the venue for parliamentary sessions was going to be moved to a different location to pave the way for renovation of the chamber which has some structural defects

The renovation of the main parliamentary chamber it was explained, is aimed at upgrading critical infrastructure in the Chamber, including improvements to working tables, chairs, and other furnishings essential for the legislative body’s daily operations.

Many have however questioned why parliament is spending so much to use the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) when a temporal tent in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic erected for the investiture of President Nana Addo Dankwka Akufo-Addo in 2020 is idling

Critics have suggested that alternative venues, such as the tent previously used for the inauguration of the Akufo-Addo government on January 7, could have been utilized.

However, research has revealed that the cost of using the Dome is a staggering GHC150,000 per day usually for events, a source confirmed to MyNewsGh.com.

This raises significant questions, especially considering that sittings were abruptly adjourned indefinitely due to a Supreme Court impasse following clashes between the two sides of the house over who constitutes the Majority and Minority.
