Election 2024: NAPO’s familial ties with me don’t mean I've sold Manhyia to NPP - Otumfuo

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has stated that his familial association with the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), does not mean his palace endorses him or his political party in the upcoming December 7 polls.

According to Otumfuo, his palace remains apolitical, and it cannot be said that his palace supports the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the election either.

“NPP has selected my grandchild Matthew Opoku Prempeh as vice presidential candidate. Indeed, he is my grandchild, but that doesn’t mean I have sold out to the NPP or the NDC,” Otumfuo said.

“I can only render my blessings to you and urge you to work hard with all that you have… If God doesn’t crown you, you won’t win. If God says you won’t be victorious, you won’t. But if God says you will win, you will definitely win. So let’s all be peaceful and go into the elections with prayer for everything to be successful,” Otumfuo stated while addressing the NDC running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Friday, September 27, 2024, as part of her ongoing campaign activities.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, for her part, thanked Otumfuo for his continuous support and prayers for her and the NDC.

“I came to once again show myself to you that I am on the road again and to also seek your prayer, support, and advice for the upcoming elections for the will of God to prevail and for the betterment of Ghana,” she stated.

Born to Ohenena Kwame Kyeretwie and Madam Elizabeth Akosua Nyarko, NAPO’s father was one of the many sons of the 14th Asantehene, Otumfuo Agyemang Prempeh II, thus making him deeply connected to the current Asantehene and the Manhyia Palace.
