Dr Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a government analyst and lecturer at the University of Ghana, has suggested that most heavy cables be put underground to prevent damages from rainstorms.

According to Dr Otchere-Ankrah, underground cabling can provide better protection against environmental factors, leading to improved electricity supply reliability and reduced maintenance costs.

"By placing cables underground, the risks of power outages and damages to electrical infrastructure caused by rainstorms can be minimised," he indicated.

This approach, he said, will enhance public safety.

In an interview with UTV, he also emphasised the need to address the country's drainage system, stating that most of it should be covered to prevent choked gutters that cause flooding during the rainy season.
