The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), has slammed the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, for his criticism of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Alan criticised Kufuor for saying that NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best person to lead the country at this moment.

Reacting to this at a press briefing in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi accused the leader of the Movement for Change, an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 general election, of being ungrateful.

He accused Alan of betraying the NPP, which he said gave him everything.

“One gentleman who was with us called Alan Kyerematen has shown clearly through his actions that he has never loved the NPP, and just as Judas betrayed Jesus, that is how Alan Kyerematen has betrayed the NPP and President Kufuor.

“It was J.A. Kufuor who saw you, Alan Kyerematen. The power to appoint is reserved for the president, and he gave you the role of ambassador, after which he made you a minister for trade. Akufo-Addo, during his term, also gave you the position of trade minister again. Akufo-Addo, in his second term, gave you the position again,” Wontumi said in Twi.

The Ashanti Regional NPP chairman also claimed that Alan was doing the bidding of the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama.

“Oh, Alan Kyerematen, you are still complaining despite all the good things NPP did for you, unlike those of us who did not get any appointments and who did not sit on any board. Oh, Alan, so you let Mahama speak to you for you to insult Kufuor. This is a shame; it is a big shame. Shame, shame on you.”

Background:

Former President Kufuor recently granted an interview to some journalists where he endorsed the candidature of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr. Kyerematen, who has since described President Kufuor’s endorsement as a big blot on his illustrious political career, questioned the basis of the former president’s endorsement while calling the vice president’s competence into question.

However, according to Chairman Wontumi, this action by Alan Kyerematen not only proves his disloyalty to the NPP in the first place but also confirms him as a stooge being used by the opposition National Democratic Congress.

Ghana will go to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to elect a new president and legislators.
