1,000 Pregnant women receive free medical care

Asamankese, Oct. 1, GNA - From July to September this year, a total of 1,025 pregnant women were registered in the West Akyem Municipality and are accessing health care free of charge. This is in keeping with government policy introduced in July to help reduce maternal deaths and encourage supervised health care deliveries.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, gave the break down as, 600 pregnant women registering in July, 325 in August and 100 as at September 15. He told the district assembly at its sitting that the total registered membership of the West Akyem Mutual Health Scheme stood at 68,978, which constituted 40 per cent of the entire Municipal population.

The MCE said in May the Asamankese hospital, Adeiso Health centre and the Osenase Health Centre had their net working completed to become part of the national programme, soon to be made operational. New identity cards would also be released to be used concurrently with the old ones to facilitate easy access to health care anywhere in the country.
