1,000 bags of PFJ smuggled fertilizer enroute to Burkina Faso intercepted

Over 1,000 bags of 50 kilograms fertilizer meant for government’s planting for Food and Jobs that were being smuggled into neighbouring Burkina Faso have been intercepted at the Paga border.

According to Upper East Regional Minister, Madam Paulina Patience Abayage the arrest follows a tip off by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) who have been on a high alert following a similar incident.

She revealed that when Navrongo Police arrived at the scene, the culprits were removing the PJF stickers on the bags in the Ghana registered truck before transferring them onto the Burkina Faso registered truck.

As at the time of arrest, 350 bags had been transferred into the Burkina Faso registered truck [11-HJ2944] and remainder 650 on the Ghana registered truck [AS 928-13].

“When I went to the Police station this morning, the consignee, One Aisha Ibrahim and the driver of the Ghana truck were in police custody and giving their statements. They are to be arranged before court on Monday. Meanwhile as at the time of my visit, the driver the Burkina Faso truck had still not been found”, she revealed

The Minister applaud the security agencies in the Region for the huge support they have been giving to her outfit in the fight against the smuggling of fertilizer across to our neighboring countries.
