Ten customers of embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, have died following the collapse of the company, Kwabena Bonsu, the Ashanti regional secretary to the Coalition of Aggrieved Menzgold Customers, has said.
According to him, others have also suffered a stroke and are unable to walk due to the loss of their investments.
To that end, he has called on the state to expedite actions taken to deal with the directors of the firm and ensure that the customers retrieve their money.
Mr Bonsu told Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 5 February 2019 that although the government has taken some steps to deal with the situation, including the confiscation of all assets belonging to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), the customers are not satisfied.
“We acknowledge the steps taken by the government to deal with the situation but we are unhappy with the progress of work,” he said.
He added: “It appears the government has gone to sleep after the initial steps they took to confiscate the assets of NAM1, and the customers are unhappy with that.”
“As we speak, 10 customers of Menzgold have lost their lives out of this situation. Four died in Tarkwa in the Western Region, three in Kumasi and four in Accra. Others have also suffered a stroke.”
